Improving quality of life for those whose lives are affected by illness

Are you dealing with a serious or life-threatening illness?  Whether newly diagnosed, in active treatment, experiencing the effects of advancing age or nearing end-of-life, the uncertainty and fear can be overwhelming. With my experience and your unique situation, we can explore the ways your illness is affecting your life and develop strategies for managing the challenges you are facing.  By understanding the possible progression of your illness, we can anticipate changes in your health condition and discuss options.  This will empower you to plan and make decisions consistent with your values and goals.

The emotional impact of an illness significantly affects relationships.  Talking about your hopes and fears with someone not personally involved can help you cope with the multitude of changes in your life.    You may find through our work together that the quality of your life is enhanced and that you are better able to navigate your illness.

If you are the caregiver, family or friend of someone who has been diagnosed with a serious illness, I’m here to support you in honoring your own grief and in finding a sense of calm during this difficult time.  In the same way that I work with those who are ill, I can work with you to develop solutions to problems, plan for an uncertain future, and talk about the impact the illness is having on your relationships.  I offer guidance and support to caregivers, enabling them to provide the best care possible.

Illness disrupts any family’s stability, but together we can enhance the functioning of yours.  We can address issues related to the disease, including changing roles and responsibilities, expectations and caregiving, and grief caused by the losses experienced along the way.  We can explore options and develop strategies to improve communication and manage anticipated difficulties.

It may be that someone you love is near the end of their life.  What do you do or say?  How do you talk about what is happening?  How are the hard conversations initiated?  How do you say good-bye?  I have years of experience guiding people through this process, and I’m here to help you navigate this uncertain territory.

With my support and guidance, you may find this to be a time of joy, peace and fulfillment, a time to give and receive love in a way that might not previously have been possible.
